The proprietary adapters make it possible to measure from the wheel studs without removal of wheels and without interference of tire size or lugs. Many do not realize removing the wheels, droops the suspension causing the alignment to be not accurate.

Why is having proper alignment important?

Alignment plays a bigger factor than just having your steering wheel/handlebars straight but also affects wear on various items and can be a potential safety hazard. Proper alignment prevents premature wear on wheel bearings, suspension bushings and tires. When a vehicles alignment is off it also will make it pull to the side when driving and braking, making it dangerous to operate at high speeds or in difficult terrain.
